Even as a high school student, Nils Andrey was passionate about using algorithms to solve problems. From his early beginnings participating in math and science competitions in Cuba and then working as a developer, Nils has more than 20 years of experience in the tech industry. He talked to Ilya Brotzky, VanHack’s CEO, about his experience being a software developer from Cuba hired in Canada.
Nils wanted to move abroad to have a richer career working with international companies and colleagues. He says the search for a job abroad was “messy” before he got to know about VanHack. A friend recommendation changed everything.
Having Great Support From The Start
“As soon as I got in touch with members of the VanHack staff, the treatment [I got] was way different from any other hiring environment that I had jumped into before”, Nils explains. From Cuba to Canada: Getting Hired!
After working with the VanHack team, Nils were invited to some interviews and the hiring process with his current employer happened very fast. In one month he was interviewed three times and then got a job offer!
Advice For Other Software Developers Who Want To Get Hired in Canada
Nils is now living and working in Regina, Canada. He is still getting used to the cold winters but, just like in the hiring process, he says the trick is to be prepared. His advice to other software developers who want to get hired in Canada is along those lines. “I recommend you read all the materials available on the VanHack website. Sometimes we get bored and try not to read everything, but the main issues, the main things you need to know, what you need to prepare to face this process is right there”.
