Julian Slonim is a talented software developer from Argentina who got hired in Canada with VanHack. He is now in Vancouver with his family experiencing a snowy winter for the first time. He describes his work as the “dream job”. In the video, he talks about the hiring process and shares his strategies to get hired and relocated.
In 2019, the software developer got married and stayed in Vancouver for his honeymoon. The couple fell in love with the city and decided to move there. That’s when VanHack came into the picture to make it happen.

The beginning of a dream
“Frustrated” is how Julian describes feeling after trying to figure out relocation on his own. When a friend recommended VanHack he decided to give it a try. Seeing so many success stories inspired him to sign up and complete his profile. “I clicked on the LinkedIn page and I saw all these pictures of people relocating. Pictures in the airport, people with their pets, their families… And I got really excited”, he recalls.
Getting The Profile Just Right
After joining VanHack, Julian focused on getting his profile just right. “When I was happy with the result I started to apply”, he says. The first step was to complete the English Verification (now video interview) and get good grades on the code challenges. “I did my best and it really paid off. Soon I had two companies interested in me. I thought it was amazing going from zero companies interested in me to having two! So I started doing the interview process”.
From Argentina Hired in Canada: The Whole Process
For Julian, having a structured path with clear steps to follow helped ease him into the hiring / interview process. “VanHack has this really well thought process. You have stages…So you have the first interview, then the second interview, then the code test, then an interview with other people the company needs to have talking to you on the third round”, he explains.
After going through all the stages of the hiring process, Julian got the job offer!
