This year has been a wild 🎢.  There have been no shortages of barriers in this ever-changing climate. It’s been tough, and we know a lot of our customers and companies around the world are feeling the same way too. While we’re not off the roller-coaster just yet, December has us reflecting back on some key achievements and highlights. Here is 2022 Rewind, a year review to drive us forward into 2023.

VanHackers & Hires:

🌎 425,599 VanHackers: We’re excited to celebrate the 425K+ tech talent (to date!) who have joined VanHack. It’s only with the support of our community that we’re one of the largest tech recruitment communities in North America for companies hiring global tech talent.

#Wearediverse: Did you know? Our talent pool spans over 199 countries!

👩‍💻 44,470 Women on the VanHack Platform: In 2022, we’ve taken strides to grow our community of women tech talent and connect WiT with tech roles and opportunities. Over the past year, we’ve seen even more women join the community, a 81% increase from 2021.

We kept our focus on promoting women, and marginalized groups within the VanHacker community, matching them with DEI focused employers with roles posted on the platform or at our biannual WiT hiring events. 

In 2022, we’ve continued to work with our partners to develop value-add content, events and webinars to promote inclusive hiring strategies.

🇺🇦22 Ukrainians Hired and Relocated: In February 2022, VanHack launched the Ukrainian initiative, rallying hiring employers to support impacted Ukrainians seeking new opportunities abroad in the midst of an ongoing war. 

Today, we’re excited to have supported over 22 Ukrainian tech talent in their hiring and relocation process.

We’re continuously improving, and understanding our customers’ overall experience across all parts of their hiring journey including their engagement with the VanHack platform, hiring process, candidate quality and the services our various teams provide has been key.

🛬 Making Relocation Easy – Streamlining the Global Talent Stream Visa: We know firsthand how time consuming and cumbersome the Global Talent Stream application process can be, with the amount of bureaucratic roadblocks that slow down the process for hiring abroad and inhibiting the pathways for Canadian immigration.

This year, our hiring partner community launched a petition to the Honourable Sean Fraser to see this process changed, receiving 200+ signatures from our Canadian tech and employer community. Read on at Betakit.

🏆 BC Tech – Spirit of BC Nomination: In 2022, we were nominated for a #BCTIA Spirit of BC Award (Ambition) award for work in supporting Ukrainian tech talent and connecting them to employers and opportunities abroad.

It has been an honour being nominated alongside some impressive heavy-hitters in the BC ecosystem, and an opportunity for our team to gather and create in-person moments!

⚒️ Key Platform & Product Updates

Thanks to our tech team, we’ve added a few features and enhancements to the platform and products to ensure our communities are getting the most value from their VanHack experience.

For Employers

1.Global Mobility Tracker: This past fall, we soft launched Global Mobility Tracker, a relocation management pipeline within VanHack designed to help employers track the status of their new hire’s relocation journey. 

The all-in-one view is a collaborative space for internal recruitment teams and VanHack hiring and immigration partners to work collaboratively to ensure all processes and paperwork are successfully completed to bring your new team member to their new city. Learn more.

2. 1-Click Interview Booking with Calendly: The VanHack and Calendly integration allows employers to link their calendar and availability to VanHack (managed through Calendly) enabling invited candidates to self-serve and directly book an open time slot without the hassle of back-and-forth emails. 

All meeting information and links are synced back to the calendar event info, cutting down on any manual work or room for miscommunication and no-shows. Explore now.

3. Tech Salary Calculator: Employers need real data to help make well-informed offers. And to get that information, we’ve built a salary calculator, using verified salary based on contract, role, location and experience. Get Salaries.

1.Launch of the VanHack Learning Hub: With the VH Learning Hub, VanHack offers FREE courses to the tech community including:

2.The NEW VanHack Academy: The NEW VanHack Academy offers 40+ hrs of LIVE classes per month to help tech professionals understand the professional nuances of the international hiring processes, getting exclusive advice from experts, incredible resources and more.

3. A Successful VanHackCON 2022: This past November, we held VanHackCon, the largest and most comprehensive conference for tech talent. The evnet brought over 10hrs of content featuring experts from the industry and 3K tech professionals who want to land a job abroad.
