Four Ways To Keep Growing as a Modern Tech Talent

The tech industry moves at a fast pace. New solutions, tools, and platforms always emerge, and we must keep up. We talked to our team to gather ideas about how to keep growing as a tech talent continually, and here is what we learned.

First, it’s important to understand evolving professionally as a mindset, not a destination. It would be best if you never stop improving yourself and being curious about new technology. 

Secondly, studying should not be a burden but a way to develop and showcase your love for technology. 

And third, make sure to act on it. Priscila Assumpção, our interview advisor and facilitator, says many candidates tell recruiters they “keep up to date and love to learn.” Still, the ones who stand out are those who actually take courses, for example. “It’s important to back up everything you say with evidence. Show, not tell”, Priscila says.

How to keep up to date

Our interview advisor gave us four actions you can start working on right now to keep up to date as a tech talent. They come down to being an active member of the community and sharing enthusiasm for technology. 

1 – Be Active on GitHub

GitHub is one of the profiles that companies and recruiters always check to make sure candidates applying for a job have further projects outside their work experience or not.

Even just creating something for fun and sharing it on GitHub will look good on your resume, especially if you focus on high-demand skill sets. Remember, you don’t have to be proficient in every technical skill out there, sometimes, showing interest in learning and contributing to the tech community may already add points in your favor.

3 – Participate in Forums And Discussion Groups

Recruiters notice when candidates are active in their industries, and participating in forums is an excellent way to do that. You can, for example, post relevant comments on Reddit, Medium, or Quora. Sharing your knowledge and helping others is good for the community and your resume.
