Last quarter, we set out on a mission to change how hiring managers search for the specific tech hire they need.
VanHack’s expansive 440K+ tech talent database can be daunting at first glance. That’s a lot of candidates to search and filter through.
With an incredibly deep and diverse talent pool, it was important to ensure the talent search experience would be intuitive, and easy to use when users first land on VanHack.com/talent and start their talent search while at their desk or on the go.
📣We’re excited to unveil a refreshed Talent Pool experience for users new to VanHack.
The mobile-friendly talent search experience allows hiring managers to key in their search queries, generating a list of top active and passive candidate matches based on search parameters.
Here are 4 of our favourite tech talent pool UI and functionality updates to boost the Tech Talent search experience:
1. Start your search by Skills & Experience
The talent search typically begins with 2 prerequisites: Tech skills/coding languages and years of experience.
By keeping search parameters simplified, hiring managers can key in popular programming languages, and select from a range of experience levels to narrow their search for best-fit tech candidates ready to interview, add to their talent pipelines, or to save for future roles.
Once you’ve completed the signup process, employers will unlock full access to advanced search filters (Code Test %, English Level, Work Contract Type), to drill down their search further.
The powerful search experience can also be an instrumental tool for looking to identify senior candidates or seek specialty roles.
2. Connect & Interview Active, Online Talent
We’ve seen firsthand how engaged our VanHackers are, and that they mean business when searching for their next opportunity.
Fun Fact: In 2022, new tech roles posted on the VanHack platform received a qualified applicant within an average of 1.8 minutes of posting.
The updated talent pool experience displays active talent ready to engage and interview, expediting the hiring process and saving on time and valuable resources.
The online status indicates the candidate is currently on VanHack and will be instantly notified when you send a message or interview request.
Once you’ve fully completed your VanHack sign-up and onboarding, unlock Vanhack’s full suite of recruitment features enabling you to narrow your searches, start a conversation with VanHack’s Instant Message tool and invite top candidates matching your role to book an interview with you via calendar and Calendly integration.
3. Candidate Introduction Videos Worth Watching
Candidate Introduction videos are a popular feature amongst both our employer and talent communities.
These short, pre-recorded videos create a strong first impression and offer hiring managers a glimpse into what their potential hires are like in real life.
A 60-second video can tell you so much more about a person than a profile snapshot or a lengthy text-based resume. Candidates share their experiences, and skills proficiency, and discuss past projects, passions, and challenges. The introduction videos build an authentic, human connection, and provide a gauge of the candidate’s personality and communication style.
4. Close the Gender Gap: Hire Women in Tech
On a mission to live out your organization’s values, build on DEIB efforts, and close the gender gap on your tech teams?

This is only the first of many enhancements to VanHack’s talent pool experience. In 2023, we’re looking to power up our sourcing and search capabilities further, by introducing AI-driven semantic search queries, allowing for more flexibility around language and context.
