Not finding a nice place to live (We offer the assistance you need)
Aaron Howarth says that when he moved to Asia he signed the rental contract on the spot for the first apartment he saw. “It wasn’t a bad apartment, but now I know I could have gotten something better”.
“It is worth taking some extra time to look at a few different apartments to get a true feel for the type of apartment you can afford on your budget. Consider: do you want to live in a more local area or near the hustle and bustle of the city center? How far do you want to commute every day to work? Do you want a bigger place that is farther away from the action or a smaller place in a prime location?”, Haworth says.
Again, VanHackers will have our team’s help. We have assisted hundreds of families and individuals move abroad so we know how you can find the place that most suits your needs.
3 mistakes you should not make when looking for an international job
Yes, we are here for you through the hiring process and relocation. Some life decisions, though, are yours and yours alone. That’s why we encourage candidates to reflect on their goals and dreams before starting to apply for opportunities. When you have a clear vision of what you need, we are all the more able to help you achieve it. Some mistakes you should avoid are:
Not knowing what you want
“The world is a big place with an infinite number of jobs and locations to explore, and you can never be sure what type of work you will ultimately find to be the best fit”, Haworth says. Reading, talking to other professionals and good old soul-searching help you understand what is important to you.
Moving abroad can’t only be about work. The right place for you to live fits your hobbies, your family’s needs, and your personal preferences. Think about those before applying to opportunities that may turn out to be not ideal for you.
Not learning about the cost of living
Once you have considered what you and your family needs, the next step is to estimate costs.
“If I were to do it again, I would take the time to research the cost of living of my host country and then evaluate the salary offer based on the lifestyle I thought it would afford me”, Haworth explains. “I now know that thanks to online resources, it’s actually fairly easy to estimate your monthly expenses in any country. For daily goods and expenses, use Numbeo“.
Taking the first offer (You can negotiate pay and benefits)
You are almost at the end of this amazing journey. You applied for jobs, improved your profile, went through many interviews, got through the final round, and got an offer! Now it’s time to… negotiate!
That’s right. You don’t need to close the deal right away. Most companies are open to negotiation and you can work out the best benefits for you and your employer. That means vacations, and training, among others.
