It’s not rare to see gender-diverse companies outperforming their less-diverse peers. Diverse companies are 36% more profitable. Also, “when employees think their organization is committed to and supportive of diversity, and they feel included”, innovation revenue increases by 83%.
In the tech industry, talent leaders understand that the inclusion of women in decision-making processes fosters creativity and contributes to the overall success of companies. VanHack believes the same. So, why are we still talking about diversity?
We all need to reflect on why attracting women in technology remains a challenge and how VanHack can help your company to achieve its DEIB goals.
Diversity in Numbers
The 2023 Women in Tech report, released by Skillsoft, found that:
“35% of women in tech report that men outnumber them at ratios greater than four-to-one within their organizations. This percentage has increased by 23 percentage points since last year.”
“45% of women surveyed feel that they are not given equal opportunities. Most think employers should do more to support women’s professional development, provide more mentoring or coaching at work, and foster an equitable work culture.”
“Nearly 40% are likely to switch job roles in the year ahead. Many answered that compensation, a lack of equity in opportunities, and ineffective leadership have led them to consider making a switch.”

“Despite the efforts of organizations to make diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace a greater priority, our research shows that the gender gap remains quite wide and significant work is needed to achieve true parity at all levels,” said Orla Daly, chief information officer for Skillsoft.
According to Forbes, “women currently hold only 26.7% of tech-related jobs, and similarly, technology firms with more than 10,000 employees report women’s representation at 26.2%. This means we are not representative of the societies we serve. We’re creating the creations of the solutions of tomorrow without truly embracing the needs of those who will be using our technologies.”
Where are the Women in Tech?
With a community of almost 50,000 women in tech, where over 11,600 have more than 7 years of experience and 3,000+ have leadership experience, VanHack has been sharing outstanding success stories of women in tech across the years. The company has learned a lot about how women in technology have been acting as real change agents, opening more opportunities for other minorities and bringing innovation to various sectors.
Joining VH’s Women in Tech Hiring Event, for example, is a strategic move for companies and candidates alike. This event serves as a pivotal platform, ensuring that companies connect with the right candidates, and vice versa. Instead of navigating various candidate search platforms, VanHack introduces a format that simplifies the hiring manager’s quest for talented women in technology through participation in this focused and impactful event. It’s the ideal opportunity to make meaningful connections and discover the perfect match.
“Every time a woman is hired by a VanHack partner, the entire company celebrates this achievement, recognizing that each hire opens doors for other companies. It serves as a powerful example, demonstrating to job seekers that such opportunities are entirely possible.” – Says Ilya Brotzky, VanHack CEO.
Women in Tech Success Stories
Stella Miranda, a software engineer from Bogota, Colombia, secured her first international job in a VanHack’s Hiring Event and relocated to Canada for a position with an organization that recognized and valued her skill set. Over the years, Stella made the move to become a Senior Software Developer at Shopify. In a conversation with Ilya, she shared insights into her journey, acknowledging the positive transformations occurring for women in technology. Despite the challenges, Stella actively engages in fostering change and cultivating a more inclusive professional environment.
“VanHack’s Sourcing team is an experienced group that empowers candidates to join the pool of tech professionals and apply for jobs. This team also actively collaborates with companies to facilitate the recruitment of diverse teams, with one standout initiative being the Women in Tech Hiring Event. This event not only serves to connect talented women with organizations but also underscores VanHack’s commitment to establishing equitable opportunities for all,” says Julia F, Head of Success
As we step into 2024, we at VanHack want to extend our best wishes to you and your team. We’re also thrilled to invite you to our upcoming Women in Tech Hiring Fair. It will be taking place in the first week in March.
It’s a unique opportunity to connect with top female tech talent, fostering diversity and innovation in your team. This event is a testament to our shared commitment to creating a more inclusive industry and championing gender diversity in the tech industry.
“DEIB is something that has been a focus of mine during my tenure at VanHack. I recognize my part in creating noise to help drive positive change for women in the workplace. I enjoy being client-facing and curious- by nature in my conversations with hiring managers, HR, and founders about their commitments to diversity in the workplace. We still have a long way to go, and I look forward to participating in the change! Our Women in Tech hiring events are incredible opportunities for employers to connect with our talent. It’s incredible to see a hire from all the hard work that goes into this event. We hear applause across the globe!” – Meghan Watchorn, Head of Growth
