The idea for Leap began as a way to bring some incredible talent to Toronto. Leap would provide an opportunity for companies to see what the global talent pool was like. That then became the focus of the event: to bring 20 Senior Developers from around the globe to meet, interview, and get hired by some of the best companies in the city. That vision was realized over a busy two-days.
On Day 1, our Co-Founder Ilya kicked things off with a brief introduction discussing the purpose of Leap and then our VP Jeff elaborated on some of the challenges that Canadian companies are facing hiring tech talent. After that, Daneal discussed the role of MaRS in helping companies scale up and then led the panel discussion with Eventmobi and Traction on Demand, which covered a wide range of topics including how to find the best talent. From there, it was off to the races, with networking and meetings throughout the day.
On Day 2, the focus was on getting our talent the most face-time with the amazing companies that attended. The entire day was jam-packed with networking and interviews and included several offers made on-the-spot. We were very pleased with the response, turn-out, and enthusiasm as we work towards another one.
As a recap of the event, there were 659 applications received, with 21 candidates invited to Toronto
to meet with 65 event attendees. During the two-day period, more than 70 interviews took place, with 15 companies interviewing candidates in person. To date, over 10 offers have been made, with 5 candidates still in process and 7 confirmed hires.
