Neo Financial and VanHack, Hiring 100+ FullStack Developers

Neo Financial is one of our record-breaking hiring partners, having employed more than 20 VanHackers last month alone. The Canadian fintech is expanding and looking for even more international tech talents. The company has 100 hundred opened job opportunities for FullStack developers. Do you want to be one of them? Here is how to apply everything we learned about the company during VanHack’s CEO Ilya Brotzky and Neo Financial’s co-founder Kris Read’s conversation on 2021’s VanHackCON.

Read describes Neo as a “financial startup with a mission to disrupt the banking system in Canada”. The company’s goal is to become the first full-service digital bank in Canada, and they seem to be on the right track. After only two and half years on the market, Neo has been listed as one of the top 5 Canadian startups by LinkedIn and attracted investments from the likes of PayPal founder and venture capitalist Peter Thiel. Neo is now being used by hundreds of thousands of customers, which Read says leads to more growth. “The key to success is listening to users and continuing to improve according to the feedback”.

What working on Neo Financial looks like

Grouped in small teams of six or seven, more than 500 tech specialists are currently working at Neo Financial. As the company keeps growing, they are creating greenfield products such as options for loans and investments.

At VanHackCON, Kris Read explained that senior members on his teams have “big voice” and that the company is all about accommodating people’s abilities and enabling everyone to perform their best. “[At Neo, candidates] get a lot of flexibility to have the kind of job they want. If you are more passionate about working on the frontend, let’s say you love building web interfaces using technologies like react, ok, we will hire you as a senior frontend developer. If you want to do backend work, ok, no problem, you can do backend work. If you want to be full-stack and have half frontend work and half backend work, and do it all yourself, ok. Even if you join in a role and want to switch after a year, you can switch anytime. We are always open to letting people pursue their passion when it comes to developing”.

While management at Neo is flexible in welcoming diverse technical abilities, soft skills are a must-have. Read says the company is looking for people who love “learning new technologies and being a relationship builder.”

Neo Financial is hiring FullStack Developers! Here’s how to apply

If you are a VanHacker, you can apply for one of Neo’s many opportunities on our platform. If you are not, sign up now at: www.vanhack.com/candidates. That’s step one. Step two is a code challenge, “it’s a quick assessment, and it takes a bit over an hour”, Read explains. The next round is a technical interview with two of the senior developers on the team. The fourth and final step is a cultural fit interview that Read is quick to say “is not an interview at all”. He says it’s more a conversation that benefits the candidate more than the company. “We want to make sure you understand the company and our values and help you decide if you are going to be genuinely happy working with us”.
