So we are sharing our chat with him to inspire you to keep working on your dreams.

Motivations for an international career
New career challenges were the reason why Michael was looking for an opportunity to go overseas. The perfect location didn\’t take long to make itself apparent to him. \”Canada seemed like the best place to do that. There were lots of great companies starting there. Many companies are also moving their headquarters away from the United States and to Vancouver. Interesting startups coming from Canada as well\”, the engineer explains.
Trying to get hired abroad from the Philippines
The first place Michael went to was Google. After reading about the process of getting hired and relocating to Canada, he realized trying to do it on his own could be very time-consuming.
LinkedIn was the next step. \”I got some responses, but I got a lot of rejection because I was not based in Canada. Sometimes you don\’t even get any email back at all. I would always look for companies willing to hire foreigners, but I would always see the line that says: Visa sponsorships will not be entertained\”.
Things turned around for the best when he signed up to VanHack and, eventually, got an email from our team asking him to apply for an opportunity that seemed to be the right fit.

Getting hired in Canada
When we say getting hired abroad takes time and hard work, we mean it. And it was not different for Michael.
After some interviews, our engineer received a coding task to figure out. Because of the time difference, he got the email at around 2 AM Philippines time but decided to go ahead with the challenge anyway. And that\’s when things got interesting.
\”I got it done at around 3 in the morning. Then, I got an email back immediately. They said, \’you answered correctly, but we wanted you to focus on this part.\’ So I just kept emailing them back and forth until about 7 in the morning\”, he says.
His dedication paid off when, some days later, he got the job offer. \”I got an email discussing the compensation package, so that was amazing!\”
