A great number of hired VanHackers come from India. Together with Brazil and Nigeria, the Asian country is one of the three most popular nationalities on our platform. Are you an Indian tech talent who wants to start an international career? We have selected some success cases from Indians hired in Canada to inspire you and help you plan your job search.
Nishutosh is a Software Developer from India and he recently got hired by a company in Vancouver. While he was still only thinking about looking for a job abroad, Nishutosh attended VanHack’s Leap Event in 2019 where he met different potential employers. Being presented with such a great opportunity sealed the deal for him. The next step was putting the dream in motion by being well prepared and he says Vanhack was also important during this part of the process was crucial for providing him with information about Canadian company’s requirements Canadian companies and do’s and don’ts of international interviews.
The relocation took a bit longer than expected and the dev started working remotely first. The hiring process itself was far from quick. But Nishutosh was not in a hurry and he says other candidates shouldn’t be either. “If you don’t get hired on your first tries, don’t understand this as a sign that you are incapable, it is just that the requirements didn’t match, so you should not stop there”

Great stories from Indians hired in Canada
Patience surely was the name of the game of Pankaj. The quality assurance (QA) engineer from India is currently working in Toronto, but his journey to an international job took some years.
Things eventually picked up and he joined VanHack and our team nudged him in the right direction. “I got a call from VanHack saying that there was a company that needed a professional like me and that I needed to update my profile, so I did the English verification test and the coding test. Six month after that, I finally got the job”.
Preparation was the key point for Pankaj and he says other candidates should follow suit. “My tip for those looking for a job is ‘be ready’. All the help and the materials that I got from VanHack helped me be more confident. In my experience, you have to be confident about your skills and give it 100%. That will help you to get a good offer”.

And since we are talking about hard work and perseverance, Sakshi’s case is exemplary. She applied to more than 500 opportunities before finally landing her dream job!
It all started in December 2018, when she decided to have an international career. Some months later, in April 2019, she did get offered a job in London but things didn’t work out. However, Sakshi didn’t give up. “I kept on applying for jobs abroad for over a year and finally achieved success through VanHack”.
Again, it was the Leap Event that changed things around. Sakshi was one of the 16 women to attend the 2019 edition, 10 of which got hired afterwards, herself included. “During the event, I introduced myself to more than 20 leading companies. I was selected and got my offer in December 2019. We were 16 girls from all across the globe who attended the event. I believe 10 out of 16 got hired – what a huge number! Kudos to VanHack!”.
