Winnipeg in Canada is Looking for Tech Talents

Be part of Winnipeg’s growing tech industry

A recent Tech Crunch report shows that while agriculture and manufacturing were the industries on which Winnipeg historically relied, the city has developed a tech sector that is helping the city reinvent itself and grow. “Winnipeg’s commitment to cultivating tech companies is unique.”

The foundations of its new digital-driven era are a strong university with a good engineering school (the University of Manitoba) and a low cost of living. But Winnipeg has ramped up efforts to entrepreneurship and new companies. The city offers tax credits for investments in technology and R&D and has encouraged partnerships between startups and government institutions, including labs and hospitals.

Opportunities for women in Winnipeg

The tech industry in Manitoba’s capital is also paying particular attention to women. For two years now, Ubisoft has kept the Nova Program in Winnipeg. Created to address women’s underrepresentation in STEM (Science Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) careers, the initiative partners with the city’s university to prepare women in tech for leadership positions.

Speaking of successful women rocking the tech scene, have you met Natalia yet? She is a VanHacker from Brazil who worked hard to improve her English and finally landed her dream job in the Peg.

The high quality and low-cost life of Winnipeg

Hopefully, you are now thinking of Winnipeg as a possible home. To help you with the pro and con lists, we will tell you what the main con is: the weather. The city is considered Canada’s oldest and called for some of us as “Winterpeg.” But, on the other hand, Winnipeg has a long list of pros for you if you know how to protect yourself in low temperatures, don’t mind it too much, or even enjoy cold white winters.

In the heart of the city, you will find The Forks, a historic site at the intersection of the Red and Assiniboine rivers, with warehouses converted to shops and restaurants, plus ample green space dedicated to festivals, concerts, and exhibits. The Peg also offers museums, art galleries, and the Assiniboine Park Zoo, Where you can see polar bears!
